About Dr. A. J. Apicella, D.D.S., M.S.
Dr. Apicella, a native of Uniontown, Pennsylvania, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree, in chemistry, from Washington and Jefferson College in 1984 and his Doctorate Dental Degree from University of Maryland Dental School in 1988. Following an additional three years of Post Doctoral studies, Dr. Apicella received his certificate in Orthodontics and a Master’s of Science Degree in Oral Biology, also from The University of Maryland. Most recently Dr. Apicella has become Board Certified and is a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Apicella's academic achievements include presentation of his Post Doctoral research findings at The 8th International Congress of Electrophysiological Kinesiologists (1991), which were then published in a follow-up abstract and article. Dr. Apicella has also enjoyed teaching Orthodontics and had been a faculty member at The University of Maryland Dental School as a part-time Associate Professor from 1991 through 1995.
Aside from his involvement in numerous Dental and Orthodontic Societies as well as civic groups, Dr. Apicella enjoys spending time with his wife Susan, and their two sons, Dominic and Adam. Their family time centers on church activities, sports and the outdoors.
About Dr. Helen D. Bush, D.M.D., M.S.
Dr. Helen Bush is originally from Western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. She has two sisters and one brother. After receiving a Dental Hygiene Certificate, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Health Related Professions where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. Dr. Bush attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where she received her D.M.D. in 1993 and graduated as class valedictorian. She was also inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. Among her six senior dental awards is "The American Society of Dentistry for Children" for outstanding interest and proficiency in dentistry for children.
In 1996, after 3 years of Post Doctoral training, she graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Orthodontic Residency Program, receiving her Orthodontic Certificate and Master of Dental Science degree. Her Masters thesis during the residency program was entitled "Determination of Orthodontic Treatment Need Using Orthodontists, General Practitioners, and Occlusal Indices." Dr. Bush is board eligible and has successfully completed the oral exam for future board certification. Dr. Bush has become Board Certified by the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Bush is married to Stewart Bush who worked many years in aviation management. Stew is president of Bush Enterprises Inc. including Stately Jewelry, which is CLC licensed and showcases Penn State jewelry. He is also on the Board of Directors for Friends of Smokey Bear Balloon, a non-profit organizations. Stew is also actively involved in barbershop music, singing the part of tenor.
Dr. Bush and her husband spent 2 years in New Mexico where she practiced orthodontics with the indigent of Albuquerque before moving back to Pennsylvania. They enjoy spending time with their Sun conure and Goffin's cockatoo.
